Description
Xylitol, Sugar for Diabetics.
40% fewer calories *
Presentation: strong>
Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in birch, corn, beech and fruit.
It was discovered in the 1890s by German and French scholars.
It was only in the 70's that its salutary effects on teeth were demonstrated by Kauko Mäkinen and Arje Scheinin, odotonlogie of the Institute of the University of Turku.
Xylitol stops the increase in acidity and prevents the formation of cavities.
It reduces the amount of plaque and prevents the transmission of caries from mother to child.
Xylitol also reduces the incidence of ear infections in young children.
It is produced commercially from birch bark, which is why it is also called birch sugar.
• A sweet taste similar to sucrose with no aftertaste but with a 40% lower energy value (2.4 kcal / g instead of 4 kcal / g).
• It can be used safely by diabetics.
• Unlike other sugars, Xylitol is non-acidifying to the body.
In addition, it has therapeutic value.
Several studies on Xylitol have shown that the regular use prevents tooth decay.
Subsequently, researchers from Oulu (university town in northern Finland) have also shown that consumption of Xylitol prevented, significantly, inflammation of the eardrum in children.
Personally, this is the only sugar we recommend in the kitchen as well for making jams to sweeten the fruit.
